Who can change their name?
Any person over the age of 18 can change their name. People under the age of 18 can change their name with the consent of their parents.
What part of my name can I change?
You can change any part of your name. Your forename, surname or any other part of your name. You can add names, change the spelling of names or go for a totally different one.
What happens when I receive my deed poll from Change Your Name?
Once you receive your deed poll it is yours forever. There are no reoccurring costs. You will need to sign the deed poll and have this witnessed. This can be completed by anyone but we do however suggest this is not a family member. You can also have it witnessed by your solicitor who will charge a very small fee to so this. (Normally around £5.00)
How quickly will I receive my deed poll?
If ordered and paid for online you will receive your deed poll within three working days. If paid for by personal cheque or other means it will take up to seven days.
Are your deed polls accepted by official bodies?
Our deed polls are accepted by all UK goverenment agencies and other official bodies. You must be 18 to change your name. A child aged 16 or 17 must still have parental consent but will be required to sign a declaration stating that they agree to the name change. We provide this declaration where applicable.
Are there any reoccuring costs?
You will not pay anymore than £15.99 for your deed poll with Name Change. There are no reoccuring costs. It is a one off payment.
Do I need to send the signed deed poll back to Change Your Name?
No you do not. As soon as it is signed by you and a witness it is ready to use.
I cannot trace the mother/father of my child?
If all enquiries have proved negative in tracing the parent then this should be detailed on an accompanying letter in support of this deed poll.
Do I need to supply a letter of authority to Change Your Name?
The simple answer is no. It is your responsibility to supply the letter of consent to anybody or organisation when attempting to change the child's name.
