Your name change checklist

Once your deed poll is signed, you'll need to let organisations know about your new name. We've put together this free checklist to help you keep track of everything — tick things off as you go, add your own, and come back any time.

You've updated everything!

Congratulations — your name change is complete. Keep this page bookmarked in case you need to refer back.

Where to start

We recommend updating your records in this order — each one makes the next step easier.

1
Government ID first — Passport, then DVLA driving licence. Your passport is the primary ID most organisations will ask for.
2
HMRC & DWP — Update tax records and any benefits to avoid discrepancies.
3
Banks & financial accounts — Once your passport is updated, banks will accept it as proof. Do all accounts together.
4
Employer & pensions — HR, payroll, and pension providers need updating for payments and records.
5
Everything else — Utilities, insurance, subscriptions, and online accounts can follow at your own pace.
Your progress is saved automatically in this browser.

Are you sure? This will permanently clear all your ticked items, timestamps, and notes. This cannot be undone.
