How to change your name with Revolut

Revolut changes your name in the app, and asks for government-issued ID to approve it. A deed poll isn’t issued by the government, so update your passport or driving licence first.

The quick answer

In the Revolut app, tap your profile icon in the top-left corner, select Account, then Personal details, and tap your name to edit it. Revolut says you’ll need to provide a government-issued ID, and that approval usually takes 15 to 45 minutes, though it may take longer. A deed poll isn’t a government-issued ID, so the safest route is to update your passport or driving licence first. You can’t change your name while you’re going through verification.

How to change your name in the Revolut app

Open your profile

Tap your profile icon in the top-left corner of the Revolut app.

Go to Personal details

Select ‘Account’, then ‘Personal details’.

Tap your name to edit it and follow the instructions.

Provide your ID

Revolut says you’ll need to provide a government-issued ID. Approval usually takes 15 to 45 minutes, but may take longer.

If you’re going through verification, Revolut says you won’t be able to update your name until it’s finished, so wait until it’s complete and try again. Revolut: change my name

The ID Revolut asks for

Revolut’s help page says that if your name has changed, or the name on your Revolut account doesn’t match your legal name, you’ll need to provide a government-issued ID. It doesn’t list which documents count.

A deed poll proves your name has changed, but it isn’t an ID document issued by the government. The safest route is a passport or photocard driving licence in your new name.

One thing at a time. Revolut says you can’t update your name while you’re going through verification. Finish that first, then change your name.

Where your deed poll fits in

Your deed poll is still the starting point. It’s the document you use to get your new name onto your passport or driving licence, and that new ID is what you then show Revolut.

Changing the name on a GB driving licence is free. Our driving licence guide covers DVLA, and our passport guide covers HM Passport Office.

Make sure your deed poll is complete before you send it anywhere: signed in your old and new names, dated, and signed by an independent witness.

The order that works for Revolut

Deed poll first, then your passport or driving licence, then the Revolut app. Each step uses the document before it.

How long it takes

Revolut says approval usually takes 15 to 45 minutes, though it may take longer. That’s quick, once you’ve got the ID it needs.

Its help page doesn’t say whether you’ll get a new card, so ask Revolut in the app if you want one in your new name.

Once Revolut has your new name

Your account number and sort code stay the same, so your salary, Direct Debits and standing orders keep running. What does need a nudge is anyone who pays you. Banks check the name you’re paid under through Confirmation of Payee, and Pay.UK says a personal account has to match the exact registered name. Once Revolut has your new name, someone paying you under the old one may be told it doesn’t match, so give your employer, landlord and regular payers the new name too. Pay.UK: Confirmation of Payee

Your credit file catches up as lenders report your new name. Our guide to name changes and your credit report explains how the old and new names stay linked, and the name change checklist keeps track of everyone else.
