The quick answer

Log in to Online Banking and choose Your profile, Change your contact details, then Change name. You can also complete a printed form and take it into a branch, or post it to Lloyds, The Green Building, Leeds, LS78 1LB. Lloyds accepts an unenrolled deed poll only with a valid driving licence or UK or EU passport in your new name. Once it’s done, Lloyds updates your name on all your Lloyds Banking Group accounts, including Halifax, Bank of Scotland and MBNA.

Lloyds Bank: change your personal details

What Lloyds accepts as proof

Your situationWhat to provide
Marriage or civil partnershipYour marriage certificate or civil partnership registration document
Enrolled deed pollThe enrolled deed poll (enrolment isn’t available in Scotland)
Unenrolled deed pollThe deed poll plus a valid driving licence or UK or EU passport in your new name
Statutory declarationThe statutory declaration
AdoptionYour adoption certificate
ScotlandA copy of the entry in the Register of Corrections, or an amended birth certificate issued by the Registrar General in Edinburgh
After a divorceYour divorce papers or decree absolute and your marriage certificate, plus one of: an enrolled deed poll, an unenrolled deed poll with a licence or passport in your new name, your birth certificate, or a Register of Corrections entry (Scotland)

Lloyds also asks for your driving licence or UK or EU passport, and for both your old and new signatures. It takes original or certified copies, returns any originals once the change is made, and only returns certified copies if you ask.

Using an unenrolled deed poll with Lloyds

Lloyds is one of the stricter banks here. It accepts an unenrolled deed poll, but only with a valid driving licence or UK or EU passport that already shows your new name. The deed poll on its own won’t be enough.

The easiest order is usually: deed poll, then driving licence, then Lloyds. Changing the name on a GB driving licence is free, and the new licence gives Lloyds the photo ID it asks for. Our driving licence guide explains what DVLA needs.

You don’t need to pay to enrol your deed poll just for Lloyds if you have that new-name ID. Our guide to enrolled and unenrolled deed polls sets out what enrolment really changes.

Deed poll first, then your driving licence or passport, then Lloyds. Each step uses the document before it.

Halifax, Bank of Scotland, MBNA and insurance

Lloyds says that when you contact it, it’ll update your name on all your Lloyds Banking Group accounts, including ones held with Halifax, Bank of Scotland, MBNA and Lloyds Bank Private Banking. One request covers the lot.

Insurance is the exception. Lloyds says not all the insurance policies it sells are managed by Lloyds, so it won’t update your name on those. Check each policy for the insurer’s contact details.

Related: Halifax and Bank of Scotland follow the same process.

Once Lloyds has your new name

Your account number and sort code stay the same, so your salary, Direct Debits and standing orders keep running. What does need a nudge is anyone who pays you. Banks check the name you’re paid under through Confirmation of Payee, and Pay.UK says a personal account has to match the exact registered name. Once Lloyds has your new name, someone paying you under the old one may be told it doesn’t match, so give your employer, landlord and regular payers the new name too. Pay.UK: Confirmation of Payee

Your credit file catches up as lenders report your new name. Our guide to name changes and your credit report explains how the old and new names stay linked, and the name change checklist keeps track of everyone else.
